El Piri bikepacking route: Girona to Andorra Begins!
Cycling the world - Europe: 165 episode
In this episode I leave Girona and head towards Andorra, following the El Piri bikepacking route in the Spanish Pyrenees, which also touches France and Andorra. Starting a bit late after exploring the old town of Girona, I set off on the anticlockwise segment from Girona to Andorra. The weather wasn’t ideal, but fortunately, it didn’t rain until after I pitched my tent. However, I discovered two small leaks in my 4-year-old tent during the night as the rain started. The next day was mostly dry, though the cool temperatures combined with high humidity made me sweat like a beast. Towards the end of the day, I faced a long climb and struggled to find a suitable campsite for the night.

Well, for cyclists Girona is the most famous place in the EU, and a must-destination for anyone cycling in Spain! There are a lots of UA-cam videos about the Girona, even some american Cyclers and you tubers have moved to the Girona because of the hype, you could have made your own UA-cam impression of the Girona and the "Cycling Mecca"!

    • @DavideTravelli

I think it’s just a hype because of Game of Thrones. There are many cities in Spain that are more friendly and welcoming, cheaper, better climate, more diverse landscapes and ultimately better cycling. Defo I’d rather live in Granada than Girona.

The problem is the fragmentation of those platforms: Couchsurfing, Warmshowers, BeWelcome, Welcometo my garden etc. Then people forget they even have an account there let alone replying to the requests. Every day there is one new platform. I wish there was only one.

Il dato da considerare è quello di comfort e non quello limite, questo perché il limite è una temperatura di tolleranza limite nel quale ci terrà al sicuro ma non al caldo. Yeah, Komoot...9April24, it sent me on a beautiful track North of Durango, México, which got wilder and then stopped at a gate which had been very deliberately closed, with barbed wire on top. There were cows and a caravan, but no dogs or meth lab so I lifted the bike over somehow...Further down a gate was padlocked...then it was opened. On balance I was happy because it turned out ok and the track was beautiful, but it could've been a hassle.

Yeah that would have been nice, I didnt find any hosts in Mallorca and stayed in Lluc because of the rain bu also I really needed to get a shower 😅 Next time you are in Bergamo you should go up Citta' Alta is nice and charming and do some of the classic climbs we have cycling up either Val Brembana or Val Seriana. In Bergamo there is also a very nice hiking trail it's called Sentiero delle Orobie and you can sleep each night at the rifugio but the rifugio are all managed so you have to pay.
